About Our Classes

Kids Rock Music Class (KRMC) uses The Music Class® (TMC) early childhood music education program designed to unleash the musical potential of young children. Featuring TMC's award winning music, engaging activities, CDs, and curricula, we are proud of the high standards we set in the field of early childhood music education.

While we take our goal of educating children very seriously, we know that the key to success lies in one word—fun! Everyone has a great time in class, and children love listening to the CDs over and over again at home. Because we know that it is essential for grownups to enjoy the songs as well, we make sure our music isn't simplistic or babyish. Parents frequently tell us how much they enjoy the music.

Research shows that early childhood is the window of opportunity to increase the lifelong music aptitude of a child. KRMC provides several programs that capitalize on this critical time period:

Music Pups® (birth – 5)

Music Pups features fun music and movement classes for young children with a parent or caregiver designed to nurture the musical development of young children. Through teacher modeling, play, parent education, our acclaimed CDs, and the joy of our classes, Music Pups® helps you create a stimulating musical environment for your child.

Each class is 45 minutes long. Families receive a CD and songbook with a broad variety of sounds and activities designed to stimulate musical learning. Our library of 11 CDs allows your family to enjoy class for almost three years with all new music each session. Mixed age classes are developmentally appropriate and allow siblings to enjoy class together.

Music Cats® (4 & 5)

Music Cats includes the same FUN spirit as Music Pups, with more challenging activities designed to capitalize on the creativity and abilities of “big kids”.

Goals and Highlights of Music Cats:

  • Develop critical listening skills. While critical listening skills are essential for musical success, the fun activities we do in Music Cats will also prepare your child to be a better listener in the classroom.
  • Fun props and activities are a hallmark of The Music Class. In Music Cats, your child will enjoy using large drums and our unique Giant Keyboard.
  • Fun keyboarding activities to help prepare our students for future keyboard or piano lessons.
  • We introduce band and orchestra instruments, and practice identifying the sounds they produce.
  • Individualized tonal and rhythm instruction is included each week to challenge each student at his or her own level.
  • You'll receive a copy of our current Music Class collection CD and songbook plus an additional practice CD

We strongly encourage students interested in taking our Keyboard class, to take Music Cats first.

About siblings: Your younger child would have more fun, more freedom, and more educational opportunities in our Music Pups class. We do understand that it is not always possible to have your children go to two separate classes, so we cautiously welcome siblings in this class. If your younger child can be quite when need be, can follow directions, and can exhibit self control when surrounded with large, really neat drums, then he or she is welcome.

Open Art Studio: (Mixed Age)

To promote creativity, learning, and fun. This is a group class to help stimulate the child's mind through art. Every week is theme based. See our calendar of events for this weeks project!

Sound Habits Keyboard Classes (5 – 7)

If your child can sing in tune and keep a steady beat, he or she is ready for instrumental instruction. We use The Music Class "Sound Habits" curriculum in which aural skills are taught along with technical skills and students learn to play by ear before music notation is introduced. Children and their parents learn together in a group of up to eight families.

New students are accepted in the Spring only, so register now!

If your child does not do well on the assessment test, please consider registering for Music Cats®. Our Cats class focuses on developing listening and pitch skills, and we have found that students who have taken Cats are well prepared to succeed in Keyboard.

If you have any difficulty with the test, or have any questions, please email me at cara@kidsrockmusicclass.com

Make-ups are not available in keyboard class. Weekly practice assignments are included in your materials enabling students to move along even if they miss a class.

Group Keyboard Bugs: (7 – 9)

Group keyboard classes meet once a week for one hour at the same time each week. Students are grouped according to age, skill development, and musical goals. Classes are sometimes regrouped to provide the best learning situation. We provide a keyboard for every student to use at the studio so there is no need to transport yours.
